healthy "cake"
Yeyyyy it was my birthday recently and welll you know, since there are many types of foods I cannot eat at the moment, I was forced to think of a type of birthday cake I can eat. So here, for my birthday, my helper and I made a fruit cake! It was so pretty, and you know what, it's perfect for anyone who suffers from gluten/food additive/ intolerance or for those who have egg/nut/milk allergies!Great to share with the family, those who have diabetes too (least it's not artificial sugar..) and for children too.. it'll get them changing their idea of fruits, and help them to appreciate and enjoy nature's wonders a little more :).
Also really good for the health conscious who refuse to be conditioned into thinking that cake should be some artificially flavored, baked and processed filled mass of calories.

FOOD FIGHT
Before I get started on this post, thought I'd just share that very soon, I'm going to get down to writing a post on my own food journey which I'm going through .I have been facing allergies, and beginning to recognize them as I listen to my body. I have been discovering more about the food I have been eating and I have come to realize that my "healthy" dietary habits I once believed to be right for my body, really hasn't been.
So as I go about my food trials and tests on a daily basis, I examine, listen and talk to my body to note what I am reacting to, and what I am not reacting to. I will need a good few hours to write this post in depth though, because I will state all my findings, research and personal notes, and condense it into something short and easy to understand (with as little scientific jargon as possible). One thing for sure though? Processed food? IT'S OUT. Enough of this rubbish for my body, in any form, wholemeal or not, I've begun to realize the importance of being an informed and curious consumer.
Till then, let me get on with this post, and share this video. It's called "Food Fight" and it was put together by Earth Amplified ( a four-piece band which plays conscious 'Roots-Rap-Reggae' . They too stress the importance of staying AWAY from processed junk, and not supporting manufacturers such as Monsanto. The band claims to be here to uplift the people and the planet) (which btw, after listening to their stuff, i do not doubt).
Anyways, this video rips right at the core of what's really killing Americans-food. Honestly, not just Americans, I'd say most people on this planet. The processed crap shoved in our faces on a daily basis makes me sick (haha literally), and to be exact, the nutrient-depleted, overly-refined, pasteurized homogenized GMO-contaminated pesticide-sprayed corn syrup laden preservative packed food we are consuming is killing blacks, whites, browns, yellows, reds, greens, purples, pinks and everyone else, by the millions, every minute.
I quote from the website that this video is " a revolutionary edutainment tool- a short musical hip-hop story, accompanied by a high school curriculum-for teaching kids about the realities of our food system and it's effect on the their bodies, their community and their planet".
People who take the trouble to create videos like these, they dare to be different, dare to break the chains of commercial poison that infests our society. Hats off to them, for attempting to plant seeds of change and curiosity, for awakening and enlightening.
If there are parts you don't understand, Google it, come on, start your OWN food and learning journey, it's meant to be.. that's why you are watching this n the first place. Beats watching em Harlem Shake videos.........thats' if you want to engage your brain..

cancer infographic
Yes, this infographic is informative and nicely done, however I think they've missed out on other key causative factors, such as the lack in purity of our food, the stresses in our lives, the lack of time to address or vent this stress, or even the lack of time to hit the gym or workout since working hours are so long, or the air, how polluted our air and environments are? And tobacco is so high up, radiation much lower, does that make any sense? When the radiation we are exposed to on a daily basis from our mobiles to our laptops is a constant disruptor to the cells in our body? Aah..oh well.. it is informative to a certain extent.. take a look if you want..

sickening beauty
I'm a fan of info-graphics like that found below, cause there is so little beating about the bush. Information is laid out in a succinct and easy to read manner. Check out the picture below if you are curious to know what harmful chemicals may be contained in products you may be using on a day-to-day basis.

cigarettesss
- About 80% of 18 year old smokers are hooked to smoking before they turn 21.
- Globally, an estimated 600,000 deaths take place as a result of passive smoking every year. Of these, one-third of those killed are children who are exposed to smoke at home.
So I'm sure you've heard that second hand smoke is worse/more harmful than smoking cigs right? I've always wondered why. It's been speculated that it's because the smoke which burns off at the end of the ciggy contains more harmful substances than the smoke inhaled by the smoker. (BTW, here's an interesting thing I learned while reading a bit more on this, so the smoke that the smoker exhales is called MAINstream smoke, while the smoke which burns off, the smoke drifting from a lit ciggy is called SIDEstream smoke. When these two combine, you get second-hand smoke.)
Annoying fact: The smoke which lingers, the drifting smoke, actually contains higher levels of cancer-causing compounds. More so than mainstream smoke, (which is what the smokers exhale). I guess the annoying part about second hand smoke is that it isn't as visible as active smoking.
If you are exposed to second-hand smoke often, your body absorbs nicotine and of course a host of other harmful chemicals (the same way a smoker's body would). Inevitably increasing your risk of developing smoking-related disorders such as lung cancer and heart disease.
Passive smokers, if you have been feeling increased breathlessness, allergies and eye/nose irritations it's all possibly linked to inhaling/exposure to cigarette smoke. soooooo take care! run away from the silent killerssssssss or try to avoid it if it bugs you.
If you aren't a passive smoker and you are an actual smoker who really feels bad for buying cancer and well harming lovely people in your presence, and suddenly feel you should quit killing yourself and others around you, well, you could join this group on FB http://www.facebook.com/IQUITClub or call the QuitLine @ 1800 438 2000 OR send an e-mail to hpb_quitline@hpb.gov.sg OR even add hpb_quiline@hpb.gov.sg as a contact on MSN. There is an escape once your heart is set. They will give you the support/help/motivation you need.
