1900-Heart-Disease-Please

Burger King in Japan is having a promotion, 15 strips of bacon added into your burger for an extra $1.20.

So this guy by the name of Mr Sato decided to order a burger with a 150 strips of bacon.

I don't know about you, but when I saw this, I just really felt like puking. Then I began thinking of the crap in it, the sodium, the fat, the poor animals! YUCK. I know it's a one off ( I don't know if this guy is going to eat another, but hello to oil, a whole lot of cholesterol and oh hey how are you heart disease? Long time

Pure Apple Cider Vinegar

Did you know that apple cider vinegar is good for the body? I didn't really know till I started  reading a recently purchased raw vegetable juice book.. anyways I'm going to summarize and share what I read.

So here we go:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar which is good for the body should come from WHOLE apples and not just from apple cores or peelings
  • It is good for the body because it contains MALIC acid which..
  • Is good for the body because it aids in the digestive process in our bodies, aids in establishing normal menstrual flow, ridding blemishes and even in building of red blood cells.
  • MALIC acid is capable of combining with alkaline elements in the body to produce energy OR be stored in the body as glycogen for future use.

Why is MALIC in bold & caps? Well, that's cause you might confuse it with ACETIC acid (which is another component contained in many OTHER types of vinegar such as white distilled vinegar or wine vinegar ( didn't even know these types existed till I read it in the book haha).

  • ACETIC acid is just horribly bad for the body because it is capable of destroying red blood cells in the body, leading to anaemia (low iron levels), intestinal ulcers and liver cirrhosis (hardening of the liver)
  • Think of it as.. ACETIC=ASS=stupid. So we don't want the stupid acid in our bodies now do we.. or do we? NO. we. don't.
Anyways, so on the day I happened to read about apple cider and it's benefits, I happened to spot it in the pharmacy at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH)! (Had to go to GH for work and my colleague wanted to buy something from the pharmacy and tadaaaa what do I spot before me? APPLE CIDER) I think the universe must be trying to tell me something.... ha ha ha ha ha..............

Then right, I saw another bottle by another brand..

The first bottle is $9.90 while the second is $6.70. They even sell it in little pick me up let's -go- go since- your- on- the- go- bottles.. here, the cider is mixed with honey..

This costs $2 a bottle. I'd rather just go with the unadulterated apple cider (first two above).. Au naturale....... Note to self: begin incorporating apple cider in your diet Alyssa.

If you plan on incorporating Apple Cider Vinegar in your diet, you (and I) shall start doing so by drinking two teaspoons of it in a glass of water everyday.

Toodlesssssssss

Over this past week+weekend..

I bought myself one of these headsets for my mobile.. people who know me well enough know that I HATE talking on my mobile because all I think about is how my brain cells are being fried. NOT COOL. Anyways, I suppose this headset/handset haha might allay my fears a teeny tiny bit now.. no not really, but kind off.. Plus it's pink, how could I not get it? It's cute and quirky. (BTW, a significant increase in cancer occurrence among mobile phone users has been found, the World Health Organization has also listed mobile phone use under the same "carcinogenic hazard" category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform).

I was elated to find that Salad Stop now gives you the option of choosing freedom range eggs when you order your wrap or salad. What's nice about these eggs is mainly the fact that you will be consuming eggs from hormone free, antibiotic free and cage free chickens. I took a pic after ordering my wrap..

I bought myself a Bisphenol A (BPA) free  water bottle. (BPA is an environmental estrogen (mimics the role of estrogen the hormone in the body) present in many plastic materials is capable of altering DNA in the body, increasing risk of certain cancers such as breast cancer). The bottle also has the OM sign on it. Makes me wonder and hope that the water I drink will have OM vibrations..

Speaking of vibrations, over the weekend, I learned that scientists have found that water has memory. YEAH. I never ever questioned or thought about this, it is truly interesting. If you are interested, check out the links below.. In the second video, Dr Emoto basically says that water responds to feelings, to words, to emotions, and he and his team of researchers have pictures of that. When words of hate/bad/negative energy is channeled EACH water droplet from the same source turns out horribly different from the other. However, when exposed to happy thoughts/good vibes/positive energy, the water droplets look so beautiful, symmetrical and pleasing to the eye. Repeatedly mentioned is also the fact that, since we humans are made up of more than 70% water, so imagine how our thoughts/feelings have an effect on the cell in our bodies.. Pretty interesting..

(After watching the videos above) While waiting for mum to buy flowers from a nursery, I noticed a truck full of these orchids below,

and couldn't help but wonder how beautiful pictures of droplets of water would look like under a microscope if these orchids were dipped in a bowl of water.

I also went by an organic shop ( and of course I had to go in) hahah saw these organic soaps, was SO tempted to buy one when I had to tell myself "Alyssa do not give in to the packaging, just don't, I know it's cute but you don't need soap right now". Then I reluctantly  proceeded to walk out of the shop. Not before I took a picture though.. hehe

ABC , easy as 123

A=Apple B=Beetroot C=Carrot

That's the juice I made today for the parents and myself! Yummy juice, just started juicing and I'm excited. I think I'm really really becoming a little more of a health freak everyday. I LOVE IT!
We finally got hold of an excellent (and pretty expensive) juicer. If you want more information about it check out this website. It was recommended to us by my best friend's mum and its great! Very little noise, and maximum juice output I believe.

http://www.rehabmart.sg/Nutritionals/Green%20Power%20Juice%20Extractor%20KP-E1304.htm

Mumzy and I bought this as well, it removes the pesticides on fruits and veggie. Pour half a cap of it in a basin of water, soak fruits in, leave it in for about 10-15mins?

Clearly added too much water muahaah, so we had to put a towel around the basin.. overflowing water.. is not good..

After soaking the fruities, they were sliced, ready to put in the twin gear juicer

Woohooo our juice is done, cheers to that!

We then put the pulp in the soil of a few plants at home. Let the decomposition begin!

A totally nutritious and easily absorbed juice which strengthens the immune system. I guess the special ingredient in this combination would be the beetroot (apples and carrots are special too, no particular preference but you know, it isn't as commonly incorporated as apples or carrots in a person's diet)

Anyways, beetroot has been utilized for it's medicinal properties for a long long time. It contains anti-cancer properties, boosts the immune system and regulates blood pressure. If you don't like eating it, maybe drinking it in combination with other fruits will make is more palatable? I don't know, either way is fine for me, but try it out sometime, it's nice.

Another pic I like

I find these pictures pretty interesting.. I'll keep posting whatever I find along the way.

If the pictures are too small, just click on em to enlarge em..

Think about it ladies and gents.. the number of chemicals we could be exposing ourselves to EVERYDAY.. eye-opening

I couldn't agree more..morons..

This speaks for itself

Before you take another sip! Check it out..

Tea Tree for em Pimples!

When I get pimples, I always prefer getting rid of em the natural way. I will either make a turmeric paste which I will apply on my skin in the morning/night/afternoon whenever I have time) wait for about 20-30 mins and wash off , or I just apply tea tree oil. I used either of these tea tree oil brands..

Tea Tree oil is a fantastic antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal treatment. It's even been found to kill bacteria in vitro  (in test tubes). The oil can be used on inflamed skin, wounds, to relieve congestion and even dandruff.

The first bottle above by Thursday Plantation costs less than 10 bucks, the ingredients are pure tea tree oil and limonene ( An extract from citrus juices). The only drawback though is unlike Burt's Bees roll on, you have to put the tea tree on your finger first, then apply it on the pimple. Sometimes when you do this and your hands are not clean you might just kinda add more bacteria on your face.. which is totally unnecessary. With the roll on form like that of Burt's Bees, this is avoided! However, the Burt's Bees herbal blemish stick above isn't made up of just two ingredients (sometimes the longer the list of ingredients, the scarier it sounds to me), its made up of 10 ingredients 99% organic), with tea tree oil listed as the second last. Other ingredients include, calendula flower oil (which helps in reducing redness of pimples) willowbark extract ( another anti-inflammatory agent which even has salicylic acid ( typically used in acne creams to promote cell renewal) and a few other botanical ingredients.

Overall, I just always feel better knowing what I put on my skin isn't full of unnatural ingredients. (I'm not saying organic products are all i use, but I do make a conscious effort to whenever possible..)

Try it out sometime, these oils might just work out to be whole lot cheaper than going for facials or buying expensive pimple creams full of weird and scary chemicals.

Tea Tree leaves

bliss brings to you.. fat girl scrub

I went shopping, saw this, laughed, left kinda shocked, decided to take a picture.

Hmmmmmmmmmm I didn't have time to check out the ingredients.. would've researched it after.. anyways....... interesting to chance upon this. Brought to you by BLISS mind you.

Yeah Bliss makes scrubs for girls to help them slim down. Yeah Fat Girl Scrub brought to you by BLISS. WOO!

Would you try it?

Just my thoughts.. examples of scientific research projects I would NOT fund.

  1. Staring at the computer causes back/eye/arm/finger/posture problems
  2. Synthetic chemicals in products are harmful to the body-they may lead to cancer
  3. Those who consume fresh/organic foods are more likely to live longer with higher quality of life
  4. Smoking (Cigarettes) -Causes cancer/Is harmful to health/ Kills
  5. Sleeping early is healthy for the body and mind
  6. Those who exercise have reduced risk of heart disease/Are healthier than those who don't

Why would I not fund such studies? Well, if you think about it.., all the statements above make sense, total and perfect sense. I suppose this may partly be due to years and years of research previously conducted and also because of our good friend..common sense? (Which I shall now refer to as DUH( Deeply Unnecessary Health expenditure)).

I mean if you think about it logically, just for a second right.. How can ingesting pesticide laden food not have its repercussions? Or, how can smoking something with more than 4800 chemicals not result in disease?  (DUH?)

If we consume/apply/inhale thing which doesn't exist in it's natural state, how can the body be expected to not succumb to disease? (DUH?)

More money needs to be pumped in to other things, which are less obvious. Such as, why people don't listen to DUH and choose to wait for things to go terribly wrong instead, then deciding to pump billions of dollars into research which eventually yields the very same results DUH tried to  tells us from the start. All that money could be used to help people who actually need it, to help those who don't have answers which are as obvious as the answers which exist before us, within us.

It's amazing we have come this far finding out all these things, but maybe now,  we should focus less on the research aspect of these topics and instead, focus a little more on spreading the message or propelling behavioral change.

Maybe we should be spending time RE searching other stuff, so that we can evolve a little more.. a little deeper..

DUH says..

Eating too much stuff like McDonalds is not good..

Fruit and veggie is good. No... no...

No, no.. even Kimmy K and Amitabh Bachan are shocked..

That's it, we need more money for research!

One step closer to my dream :) So blessed.........

Thanks to a Facebook post put up by the Health Promotion Board (HPB), I managed to sign myself up to become a "Health Ambassador".Yesterday, I attended the orientation session at HPB,looks like I'm in for an amazing learning journey. I will be volunteering and helping out at various health promotion roadshows, will learn about mentoring, hypertension and weight management  (through free training programmes provided by HPB), and most importantly, lead a healthy lifestyle which will hopefully inspire others to do the same. It's a community thing, effort individuals make to create awareness on various health issues, so as to collectively impact the community  in a positive way. Wow, PRESSURE. hahah! I kid I kid, but I'm up for it, because this is what I love :)

We were each given a Health Ambassador T-shirt, ........

Front of T:

Back of T:

Each participant got a chance to check out the Health Zone.. hehe. As u walk up to the Health Zone, you will see these drawings by the sides....

at HPB one is encouraged to take the steps rather than an elevator

Footprints on the ground, around the Health Zone, the letters in red read " A life affair without, drugs, alcohol and smoking" . Me likes

OOooo recycling is encouraged too, me likes!

And presenting *drum roll*... The Health Zone :) I believe this is the place kiddies are brought to with their school teachers for health education.

Inside the Health Zone.......

In that jar, is the amount of  tar in the body of a smoker (who has been smoking for just a year)

The addiction zone.. where kids are introduced to the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse

For those who are interested to join, here is the link on Facebook!
