TIPS on how you can start saving the environment TODAY from home!

Ever wondered how you can begin saving the environment? Sick of all things complicated? I have put together 6 super simple things you can do from home which do not involve fancy equipment!
S I M P L E- because that's how i like things!

Below, are the video versions (Parts 1 & and 2)

  Summary of the steps

  1. Photo Copy and print on both sides of paper.
  2. Use e-mail instead of paper correspondence or pay your bills online as opposed to paying by cheque frequently.
If you are a student such as myself, why don't you ask mum or dad to bring home rough paper from work, so you can use blank sides to do your rough work/revision/calculations on?

In Singapore, paper is the most common form of generated waste.1.26 million tones of paper waste was generated in 2008.

  3.   Check and fix any water leaks.
  • Repair dripping taps. One drop per second is a waste of up to 3000 gallons per year!
  • Don't wash dishes with the water running continuously.
  • Instead of using hose pipes when washing the car, try using a bucket and sponge.
  • Take a shower instead of a bath and you will use half as much water.
  • Don't leave the tap running while you brush your teeth or shave or wash your face
  • Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load.
Guys, as most of us have domestic helpers,  we may not be aware of how much water/electricity is being used. Maybe if we make a  conscious effort to take a peek at what they are doing once in a while, we will have a better idea of  how we can advise them to  minimise the amount of water/electricity they may be wasting. Not only will we be reducing global warming and saving water, but our monthly water and electricity bills are bound to go down.

    4.  Make use of recycling facilities in Singapore.

  • It's not difficult, there are 1500 recycling bins in Singapore
As so many of us own atleast one computer/laptop/printer/handphone, the links below are great. Tell your parents about it too, all you have to do is drop off your gadget at any outlet.
  • Check out the link below for more information on Recycling of Printing Cartridges, Computers and Printing Equipment
  • Canon Cartridge Recycling Programme & Dell Recycling Programme (4 outlets in total)
  • Nokia collection/ drop off points for handphone accessories (5 outlets in total)http://www.nea.gov.sg/cms/rcd/locations/map.html

  • 5) Turn off lights, computers, appliances when not in use. Reduce air con use ( I know it's very hot.. but hey maybe we can leave the windows open more often?) Or we can rely more on fans.. but still.. I know.. the heat sometimes is quite  unbearable. Even I am trying to change my habits.

Again,  these steps will reduce your electricity bill and reduce global warming!
  •    6) Try to buy more organic products. For example organic food, because many agricultural sources use chemicals on their foods, which pollute water, air, and even the animals living in such environments.

Lastly, why don't you try using cloth bags  instead of plastic bags? Or hey, bring your own bag from home instead of buying a new bag,( I don't see why we need to buy new bags if we already do have empty bags at home we aren't using! I mean we are supposed to be reducing waste now aren't we?)

Whichever your bag preference- i sayyyy why not? We should be using what we already have shouldn't we?

If i had this bag, I'd totally take it. :)
