Nowadays, we apply aloe vera to ease his itching problem. Apart from aloe vera you may also use turmeric. We tried using turmeric before, however there wasn't much improvement seen for him. This is in his case though, do keep in mind that as every animal is different, results are bound to vary!
As Kookie tends to itch his belly and areas around or on his ears, aloe vera is applied on those areas before he sleeps. He doesn't seem to mind the aloe vera on his skin, which could be because of the cool sensation it provides his skin.
Hopefully this natural alternative combined with his prescribed medication eases his situation!
If your dog/s face the same problem why don't you try applying either of these alternatives? They are both safe and affordable, so why not?
Here are a few pictures of aloe vera and turmeric. I personally feel that aloe vera works better, I think he finds it cooling in our hot climate. Also, for those who are applying it, I feel it doesn't create as much of a mess as turmeric could.
The gel inside the aloe vera plant can be applied directly to the skin or hair of your doggy or hey even you! Plus, you can consume the juice within which will help you flush out built-up toxins from the stomach and gut.
We bought 3 aloe vera leaves for just $3.50 near Little India MRT station. I was told that it's even cheaper inside Tekka Market.
Turmeric
200 grams of this vibrant yellow spice from India can be bought at the low price of $1.50 from Little India. I'm sure there are other shops too which might actually sell it for a lower price Anyways, like aloe vera, this spice is great for soothing inflamed skin. Even if you don't want to use it for your dog, you could try it too! If only I was more aware about this when I was younger, could have prevented many scars and endless itching i experienced. Like my doggy, i too have pretty sensitive skin :(
Gooood luckkk! Hope this has been useful :)
