Got milk?

So while speaking to mum today, she told me about something she read about really recently ( i think yesterday or a few days ago?)

In China's Hubei Province, three baby girls between 4 and 15 months old have started to develop breasts.

Shocking huh?  China's Health Ministry is currently investigating whether it's because they've all been drinking a particular brand of milk formula which is produced by Synutra.

Remember how not too long ago more than 52,000 Chinese children were poisoned by melamine-tainted goods? You know, it wasn't just baby's milk powder that had melamine. In fact a variety of dairy products were found to have melamine leading to many products from China being either banned or recalled. Countries such as the Phillipines,Singapore, Africa, Malaysia, India and America began taking swift action.

You know the yummy White Rabbit Creamy Candy? The chewy milky sweet ( which i love and which also makes me feel all kiddy once I begin chewing and chewing), the one where there is an edible translucent wrapper? You know..the sweet shown in the picture below? Hehe. Yesssss, even that product (a widely exported product ) from China had to be ordered off shelves after tests showed contamination :(

How trusting we can be of government bodies/official departments/ food and drug authorities/ manufacturers and owners of companies/ science and technology.

I guess something good that could come out of all this ( apart from more stringent laws and regulations) is that Women are being reminded that the most natural way- breast feeding should not be forgotten. Breast feeding has numerous benefits and sadly it isn't a priority for many new mothers these days. Do we always have to learn the hard way about things? Will we have to wait for more babies to be poisoned/harmed during their infant years before we begin to encourage and acknowledge or practice breast feeding?

Or hey, maybe the masses need greater convincing by Gisele Bundchen?

I don't know..

  1. Wow that caught me totally unawares! That is so scary! It is just so scary to think of all the things that we are mindlessly ingesting. Unfortunately the masses are the target because they cannot afford the healthier expensive alternatives. They also lack the knowledge. Sad. Great blog btw!

  2. Thank you so much! Apologies for this late reply, I just saw this comment! I know, it is scary, which is why we have to open our minds and think about what we are going to purchase/ingest next! Peace!
