i`m sure you recognise that the problem of obesity has very little to do with over eating. it involves so many other factors and is a problem in itself. such comparisons only put a certain group of individuals, who probably need help as well, in a bad light.
Yes of course you are right. I was merely pointing out a fact about the proportion of overweight people to those who don’t have enough food.
I found it an interesting stat and an eye-opener and reminder of how contrasting situations are around different parts of the world. Before we know it, we'll be triggering an unprecedented epidemic of all sorts of diseases and health implications related to something as “simple” as improper food rationing.
Er.........although various factors can cause obesity, I don't think that being overweight has "very little to do with overeating". Studies in US and Australia attribute their very high overweight populations to the amount of junk food consumed (and sedentary lifestyles).
aly: yeah it is interesting. theres so much involved that constitutes to these varying situations. history, tradition, culture among many others.
anonymous: maybe I didnt phrase it right. instead of saying it has very little to do with overeating i should have said that overeating is not the root problem and hence those who are over weight should not be compared to those who do not have enough food in a manner that seems to suggest they are beneficiaries of some sort at the expense of those living in poverty.
also, in this day and age, junk food consumption is not only restricted to these western countries. yet you see them as being the most affected and the reason for that would probably be the environment and culture that they have been brought up in.
